FAQ-OPAM-0010
- Q:
- Is it possible to use a single-supply op. amp. with dual supply?
- A:
- Yes. But please bear in mind that in most cases, input/output voltage range is deflected to the GND terminal side (V- side). The GND electric potential may not be included in an op. amp's common-mode input voltage range and maximum output voltage range under ±2V.
- Also, for products featuring a C-class bias output step such as NJM2904, "cross over distortion" may occur when a transistor is cut off at a point where output current shifts from sync to source, and at the same time the transistor is used as an op. amp. To avoid this problem, please put a resistance between output and GND terminal and ensure enough idling current.
- In this case, the ideal is to have the same amount of idling current as maximum output current needs to run through constantly. To avoid an increase of current consumption as well as to minimise crossover distortion, we recommend using NJM3404A, featuring AB-class output steps.
